Conan May Get $30 Million To Leave

Conan O'Brien has struck a tentative deal to leave NBC for a large cash payout, valued at $30 million by the industry website The Wrap. O'Brien's last day may be as early next Friday. The deal, negotiated by Universal President Ron Meyer, does not contain a noncompete clause, so O'Brien would be free to accept a deal to go to Fox, which is widely expected to be in the works.

Only a few times in the history of television have there been major screw ups… but seriously folks what’s with NBC lately? Back in 2005, when NBC first announced that there would be a passing of the torch from Leno to Conan for Tonight Show duties, I thought it was a switch that made sense.

Conan Threatens To Walk From 'Tonight Show'

Conan O'Brian released a statement Tuesday declaring that unless NBC changes its plan to move The Tonight Show to 12:05 am, he's walking away from the network and his $40 million two-year contract. "So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it," he said.

Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien took some daring shots at their fickle bosses at NBC Monday night proving once again that out of pain there's humor. With NBC’s announcement Sunday that it's moving Leno from his prime-time perch at 10:00 pm to O’Brien's 11:35 pm slot, the fates of O'Brien and Jimmy Fallon are now in corporate limbo.

NBC confirmed rumors swirling about the network's late-night lineup on Sunday that Jay Leno's ratings-challenged primetime show would be pushed back to his old timeslot. Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show either will be moved back to midnight or the host will leave the network as part of the shake up.
