U REVIEW

TV: Entourage - Season 6, Episode 2

By: Edward Chow

I always enjoyed the aspects of Entourage that showcase the flash and overindulgence of the Hollywood scene. Unfortunately the last few seasons seemed to drag the boys through Hell and back. The difficult task the writers appear to have is maintaining a balance of extravagance while still offering some sense of a struggle so that the audience doesn’t eventually get turned off. That said, I am one of those who actually enjoys it more when Vince and the gang are at the height of their success and celebrating every minute of it.

Episode two kicked off with Turtle complaining about Knocked Up and the idea that a guy like Seth Rogen would ever actually get to bang Katherine Heigl. He further goes on to say that being funny doesn’t make up for his average looks (he actually says ugly). The irony is that he is dating Jamie-Lynn who is out of his league according to everyone else. For now they are a happy-go-lucky pair, so much that she announces their relationship to the media at the Great Gatsby premiere. The rest of the guys hurry to get dates as well: Vince brings a previous hookup, Johnny brings a bubbly, open retail girl and E brings Sloan as a “Friend.”

Obviously the current unknown dynamic between E and Sloan is one of the major plot devices this season and as a point of conflict they introduce Eric’s new neighbor Ashley (played by the adorable Alexis Dziena). Ashley seems really into Eric: calling him/hanging up, bringing him flowers to his new place, and crashing the premiere later with a nice awkward moment between the three of them. Eric decides to try and get back with Sloan but is shot down and licks his wounds by going to Ashley’s place for some comfort. This act no doubt will set up a love triangle of some sort to draw out maximum suspense and angst.

The other major thread is Ari and Andrew. Ari comes to the conclusion that he may or may not be having an affair with a junior agent. This is information that Ari doesn’t want to know as he has gone out of his way to introduce his wife to Andrew’s wife Marlo and they have quickly become friends. We can see that this will not end well at all. Poor Lloyd is also seen subsisting on a diet of one grape an hour as Ari has ordered him to lose weight in order to become a “super agent.” This season is shaping up to be very interesting indeed!
