This time it's actually real: Heidi Montag, 23, filed for divorce from Spencer Pratt, 26, Friday morning in Santa Monica, California citing “irreconcilable differences” in her petition.

Though the filing took place only a few hours ago, Pratt is already talking to the press. “Well, some say if you can’t handle the heat get out of the kitchen," he said. "Heidi couldn’t handle King Spencer’s fame so she got out of the marriage.”

The couple, who wed in April 2009, have been in the news repeatedly for their marital woes. After Heidi filed for separation in June, many were skeptics – critics thought it was just another media rouse. Hills co-star Audrina Patridge told People: “I think it’s a joke…I don’t believe it. They’re inseparable and in love.” 

But it seems this time things are official. A rep for Montag confirmed the divorce to Us, saying that “Heidi is going through a difficult time.” Meanwhile, Pratt keeps talking: “I love Heidi but our marriage was a show – it was part of The Hills world… and that world is on a sound stage. [speaking in third person] It’s clear that reality TV fame-loving Spencer Pratt does not fit with my ex-wife Heidi Montag’s ambitions for a motion picture actor/pop star career and being a single sex symbol for the world.”

Montag has since dropped out of a planned reality show with former best friend and early Hills co-star Jen Bunney. “She has a lot to deal with right now,” Bunney wrote on her blog today. –Alex Santos Murry
